Ann Coulter Uncertain Whether Ted Cruz Eligible for Presidency: ‘It’s Not Open and Shut’

While she “loves” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) as a potential presidential candidate, Ann Coulter is not entirely certain whether the Texas Republican would be eligible under constitutional requiring the president to be a “natural-born citizen.”

Geraldo Rivera insisted that Cruz having been born in Canada to a Cuban father and American mother causes a bit of a legal headache, considering Article 2, Section 1’s requirement that “No person except a natural born Citizen” may be eligible for the presidency.

“It’s not open and shut,” Coulter conceded, adding that “We’re gonna have to have some law professors look at it and give us the answer.”

She took exception to Rivera’s certainty that Cruz will not be able to run, noting that previous GOP candidate John McCain was born in Panama. However, as Rivera noted, McCain was born in then-U.S. territory “Panama Canal Zone,” making him undoubtedly eligible (or, “unfortunately,” as Coulter quipped).
