Bill Clinton Reportedly Talked About Hillary’s Gay Rights ‘Discomfort’ During Senate Race
A piece of audio uncovered by the Washington Free Beacon appears to feature a friend of Bill Clinton‘s saying the former president talked about his wife’s “discomfort” of gay rights issues during her Senate race.
According to the Free Beacon, the person speaking is Taylor Branch, a friend of Clinton’s who recorded notes after conducting a series of interviews with him for an oral history project.
In this particular recording, from 1999, while the First Lady was running for Senate, Branch recalled the president saying “I’ve had much more contact in my life with gay people than Hillary has” and that she’s “a little put off” by the issue.
From what Branch determined, Clinton was saying Hillary “had kind of a conservative religious temperament, and was not likely to be comfortable around gay people who were kind of acting out.”
Clinton is very publicly in favor of gay rights as of this current campaign.
