Bill Simmons: Comedy Central Courted 3 Big Names for Daily Show
Trevor Noah is officially the next host of The Daily Show, but apparently there were some big names Comedy Central tried to pursue first. Bill Simmons tweeted out three names he was told they reached out to:
Heard Comedy Central pursued 3 big-ass names for Daily Show: Poehler, Louis CK, Schumer. Went 0 for 3. Young/cheap/upside was smart audible.

Amy Poehler, of course, did the “fake news” beat for a while, when she and Tina Fey (later Seth Meyers) co-hosted SNL‘s Weekend Update. Amy Schumer has the most history with Comedy Central; she currently has her own show, Inside Amy Schumer, on the network
And Louis C.K. is, well, Louis C.K.
Simmons made this observation about the choices:
PS: I don't think Poehler or CK was realistic, but had CC caught Schumer a year earlier – very realistic. Now she knows she can make movies.
