Boehner Slams Outlet’s ‘Insensitive’ Story About Bartender Who Wants to Kill Him

Boston.com has a report up today about the bartender who threatened to poison John Boehner. The current title is “Bartender’s Threat Against John Boehner Thwarted.” But the original headline was, well, pretty shocking:

And here’s a paragraph that appeared in the original report:

The question is: Would anyone have noticed? Stories about Boehner’s drinking have circulated for years. His drinking inspired a blog called DrunkBoehner, and in 2010 he brought booze back to Washington. Had he been poisoned as planned, perhaps his pickled liver could have filtered out the toxins.

Yikes.

After updating the report, Boston.com also posted an editor’s note at the bottom, reading, “A previous version of this article made an unsubstantiated reference to the health of Speaker Boehner.”

Boehner press secretary Michael Steel sent an email to The Boston Herald condemning the report. Steel said, “It should be obvious to any sentient human being that an item mocking threats against the Speaker and his family is completely insensitive and inappropriate.”
