Claire McCaskill Confused as to Why Ocasio-Cortez is ‘The Thing’: What Has She Done So Far?
Outgoing Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is a little baffled by the hubbub surrounding the party’s new star — incoming Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Speaking with CNN, the Missouri Senator questioned the Ocasio-Cortez buzz, and whether it is merited.
“I’m a little confused why she’s the thing,” McCaskill said. She added, “A bright, shiny new object. Came out of nowhere and surprised people when she beat a very experienced congressman. And so she’s now talked about a lot. I’m not sure what she’s done yet to generate that kind of enthusiasm.”
The red state Democrat went on to suggest that Ocasio-Cortez’s platform will not result in Democratic victories in places such as Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan — with positions like free college tuition being currently untenable, in McCaskill’s view.
“The rhetoric is cheap,” McCaskill said. “Getting results is a lot harder.”
