CNN Panel Melts Down When Ben Ferguson Brings Up Anthony Weiner During Gianforte Discussion

Following last night’s bodyslamming of Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs, Montana At-Large House Republican candidate Greg Gianforte has been front and center in the news cycle. So, of course, CNN had to convene a panel to discuss Gianforte’s actions and if they are representative of President Donald Trump’s impact on GOP politics.

While panelists David Jolly and April Ryan saw parallels, with Jolly saying this was the environment Trump created, conservative commentator Ben Ferguson thought that Gianforte’s actions were inexcusable but solely his and shouldn’t be connected to the president.

Yet, while making the point that Gianforte’s violence to a reporter had nothing to do with Trump, Ferguson ended up invoking not only Barack Obama but also Anthony Weiner. Yes, Anthony Weiner. And it caused the panel to break down.

With Ryan noting that both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence supported Gianforte, Ferguson cited Obama’s prior support of Weiner as a counter-argument.

“You’re making my point for me,” Ferguson noted. “When you were the president, you basically support the people that are running on your side of the aisle. There are people that were shady and did stupid things and some are disgraced politicians. Anthony Weiner is one of them.”

And with that, the others on the panel — and anchor Brooke Baldwin — jumped in, wondering what Anthony Weiner had to do with this situation.

“Why are we talking about Anthony Weiner right now, my friends?” Baldwin interjected. “Let’s stay on track!”
