Cory Booker Thinks Margaritas Are Made With Vodka

Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) apparently thinks you need vodka to make a margarita, according to an interview he did with BuzzFeed Thursday morning.

Asked to name the ingredients in the popular alcoholic drink, Booker said he believes margaritas are made of fruit, ice, and vodka, as BuzzFeed’s interviewers laughed hysterically. Booker was missing one of the most important ingredients.

“Tequila!” the interviewers and staff members around Booker shouted, as the embarrassed senator corrected himself.

“This might lose some votes from people in my family right now,” he said, half covering his face.

Standard margaritas are usually made with tequila, lime juice, Triple sec, and a sweetener such as agave syrup. Sometimes the drink is rimmed with salt and lime wheels.

Update: Jeff Giertz, National Communications Director for Booker, told Mediaite this afternoon that the reason the Senator “doesn’t know a Mojito from a Manhattan” is simple: “he doesn’t drink.”
