Dallas Host to Beck: Michael Sam Kiss Was ESPN ‘Publicity Stunt’ for ‘Shock Value’

Amy Kushnir, the Dallas talk show host who got national attention for her outrage over the televised Michael Sam kiss, spoke with Glenn Beck Monday night, and repeatedly insisted she was not objecting to Sam’s sexual preference, just the fact that ESPN was exploiting the kiss for its maximum “shock value.”

Kushnir told Beck she’s been receiving horrible comments on social media, including rape threats and death threats. She said she “wasn’t talking about sexual preferences” and made it clear she really would have had a similar problem had a straight couple been “licking cake off each other’s faces.”

However, the fact that it was a gay kiss, she believes, was why ESPN used it as a “publicity stunt.” She cited reports about the planned reality show about Sam from Oprah Winfrey‘s network to argue it was likely staged. And despite all the negative comments she’s gotten, Kushnir says lots of people have thanked her for articulating what they believe, even in the case of horrible retaliation in some cases.
