White supremacist and former Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan David Duke said in an interview with Esquire that he considered conservative columnist Ann Coulter more or less the same as him ideologically.
Duke was asked by reporter Olivia Nuzzi about criticism that Coulter had leveled at him during a recent appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher. Duke, she joked, might not even exist and was only invented by the left to attack conservatives.
Duke took the sally in stride. “Ann Coulter is so savaged by the media, I guess she’s gotta feel like, ‘Well, at least I’m not David Duke!'” he said. “But if you really look at what she says, if you read her books, it’s very close to what I’ve been saying.”
Coulter has emerged in the 2016 election as the single greatest proponent of Donald Trump‘s immigration plan, arguing that Mexicans are accepting of child rape. When asked about father of a fallen soldier Khizr Khan‘s criticism of Trump’s plan to block Muslim immigration, Coulter dismissed Khan as “an angry Muslim with a thick accent.”
