FBI Tells Chaffetz They Won’t Supply Comey Memos For Now, Citing Mueller Probe

The FBI is — for the moment — not complying with Congressman Jason Chaffetz‘s request that the Bureau turn over former Director James Comey‘s memos to the House Oversight Committee.
In a letter to Chaffetz (which can be found below via Bradd Jaffy of NBC), Assistant Director Greg Brower invoked the appointment of Robert Mueller as special counsel in the Russia probe as he explained the FBI’s reasoning for the delay.
“In light of this development and other considerations, we are undertaking appropriate consultations to ensure all relevant interests implicated by your requests are properly evaluated,” Brower wrote. “We will update this response as soon as possible.”

In his request to the Bureau, Chaffetz set a deadline of June 8 for the Comey memos to be turned over to the House Oversight Committee. He also wanted Comey to testify before the Committee. But that was postponed. Comey will instead appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
