Fox News Reporter ‘Foils’ Migrant Family on Raft: ‘Were You Trying to Cross Into America Illegally?’

“We’ve been out here in the bushes waiting to witness one of these crossings,” said Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins — his voice barely above a whisper.

Jenkins, reporting for Fox & Friends from the U.S. Southern border in McAllen, TX, described how he “laid in the bushes in wait” for a migrant family to try to cross.

“They’re coming right now,” Jenkins said, still whispering. “You can see they’ve got a family in a raft.”

Then Jenkins called after the man trying to paddle the family across.

“Excuse me, sir, were you trying to cross into America illegally?” Jenkins said.

The man turned the raft around and paddled to the other side. The scene played out with a Fox News chyron at the bottom of the screen which read, “Griff Foils Illegals’ Attempt to Cross Border.”

“So what we’re witnessing now is clearly a family that was being brought over by that smuggler that was paddling in the raft,” Jenkins said on voiceover. “This is an attempt to illegally cross. And they’ve gone back over there. We seemed to have foiled this attempt. But officials tell us he’s probably going to look for another spot.”

Jenkins then caught up with the family.

“Can you tell me why you came illegally?” Jenkins asked a woman in the family.

“The situation in Honduras,” the woman said. She added, “You cannot have work in there because the criminals will always get your money.”
