GOP Rep. Calls For Increased Surveillance Of Muslim Community: ‘The Threat Is Coming From’ Them
In an interview with National Review, Peter King, the Republican congressman from New York, argued in favor of “increased surveillance” of the Muslim community. Asserting the need to not be restricted by political correctness, King said police should realize the threat comes from Muslims.
“Police have to be in the community, they have to build up as many sources as they can, and they have to realize that the threat is coming from the Muslim community and increase surveillance there,” King asserted.
“We can’t be bound by political correctness,” adds King, who chairs the House subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence. “I think we need more police and more surveillance in the communities where the threat is coming from, whether it’s the Irish community with the Westies [an Irish-American gang in New York City], or the Italian community with the mafia, or the Muslim community with the Islamic terrorists.”
Citing his past remarks about the “radicalization” of the Muslim community, King said, “This is an example of it.”
King’s comments came in light of the ongoing manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing.
