Guess Who Said This: ‘Our President Will Start a War with Iran… Sometime Prior to the Election’ (VIDEO)
As President Donald Trump ratchets up tensions with Iran, a voice from the past is trying to warn us about a president who will “start a war with Iran” in order to gain reelection.
Amid reports of preparations for war with Iran based on flimsy intelligence, and with polls showing that 55 percent of Americans saying they definitely will not vote for Trump in 2020, it’s worth revisiting that voice from the past, which belongs to then-vlogger Donald Trump.
In a November 16, 2011 “From the Desk of Donald Trump” vlog (which also featured the now-prophetic use of the “dip to white” transition), Trump predicted that then-President Barack Obama would start a war with Iran in order to get reelected. At the time, Obama held leads over his Republican challengers in almost every poll, albeit slim in some cases. Trump trails many 2020 Democratic hopefuls in head-to-head polling, by as much as 11 points.
“Our president will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate,” Trump said. “He’s weak and he’s ineffective. So the only way he figures that he’s going to get reelected and is sure as you’re sitting there is to start a war with Iran.”
He said that he “would never take the military card off the table and it’s possible that it will have to be used because Iran cannot have nuclear weapons, but you’ve got to exhaust other possibilities,” and added that Obama “doesn’t know the first thing about negotiation.”
“So I believe that he will attack Iran sometime prior to the election because he thinks that’s the only way he can get elected,” Trump concluded.
Obama did not attack Iran, won reelection, and negotiated the Iran nuclear deal during his second term. Trump withdrew from that deal despite Iran’s compliance with it, and now denies planning for war with Iran, while also saying he would “absolutely” send “a hell of a lot more” than 120,000 troops to Iran if he felt the need to.
