Trump Bashes ‘Fake News’ NY Times Over 120k Troops To Iran Report: ‘We’d Send a Hell of a Lot More’
President Donald Trump is calling “fake news” on reports that his administration is thinking about sending 120,000 troops to the Middle East to address possible aggression from Iran in the near future.
In a spray with the White House press pool, Trump was asked about the New York Times‘ reporting that Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan briefed top national security officials about a major deployment proposal amid recent U.S.-Iran tensions. Trump said he didn’t know anything about the report, but repeatedly called it “fake news” as he trashed the Times.
“Now, would I do that? Absolutely. But we have not planned for that,” Trump said. “Hopefully we’re not going to have to plan for that and if we did that, we’d send a hell of a lot more troops than that.”
