Jon Stewart Tells Troops ‘Trump’s Gonna Keep You Busy When He’s the Commander-in-Chief’
On Thursday, former Daily Show host and current quasi-hermit Jon Stewart was the emcee of the Joining Forces 5th Anniversary Event at Joint Base Andrews, and delivered a double-shot of dark roast in his introduction of Vice President Joe Biden. Stewart joked to the USO crowd that Biden “will say whatever he thinks of, whatever comes into his mind, sort of impulsive, sometimes you might think to yourself ‘That sounds crazy,’ or man, that is crazy.”
Stewart then turned the punchline darkly to presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump:
Who would have thought that now, that gets you the Republican nomination? So, um… (laughter) Don’t worry, Trump’s gonna keep you busy when he’s the Commander-in-Chief. You’re gonna have to paint all the planes with “Trump” in big gold letters. You’re gonna be busy.
Gold letters notwithstanding, Trump promises to be a bull in the diplomatic china shop, which is a serious contradiction to his non-interventionist posture.
The 2016 presidential race intruded later in the program as well, albeit obliquely, as former Late Show host and current Burl Ives “after” photo David Letterman elicited roars of applause from the assembled troops by mentioning the possibility of a third Obama/Biden presidential run:
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, but a Trump of Damocles sure does the trick, too.
