Kayleigh McEnany: Don Jr’s Russian Meeting Wasn’t ‘Treasonous’ as Hillary Had Similar Meetings

One of the more explosive comments highlighted in the excerpts recently released from Michael Wolff‘s upcoming tell-all of Trump-World revolved around President Donald Trump‘s son, Donald Trump Jr. According to Wolff’s book, former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon described Trump Jr.’s Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer as “treasonous,” adding that the Trump scion would end up cracking like an egg on national TV.

During a Fox News appearance today, RNC spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany insisted that the meeting, which Trump Jr. agreed to in the hopes of receiving Russian dirt on Hillary Clinton, was perfectly normal in the context of a presidential campaign. To make her case, McEnany invoked Clinton herself.

“The Don Jr. meeting — it was not treasonous at all,” McEnancy told host Harris Faulkner. “This was a par for the course meeting to get opposition research.”

She continued, “Hillary Clinton had had similar meetings like this with foreign agents — foreign powers — I believe it was the Ukrainians, if I’m not mistaken. So there have been similar examples of this with other campaigns. It was a par for the course meeting. Nothing turned up.”

(It would appear that McEnany was referencing a Politico report from January 2017 that stated a DNC consultant met with Ukranian officials during the 2016 presidential election in an effort to work on anti-Trump research.)

Considering the “bombshell” McEnany casually dropped there about the Clinton campaign meeting with foreign agents, one would have expected the host to have followed up. Alas, Faulkner was more interested in why Bannon was such a “loose cannon,” and continued to question McEnany about the current Breitbart chief.
