Maher: GOP ‘Deranged’ with Scandal Outrage in ‘Absence of Actual Governing’

What’s to blame for Congressional inaction these days? In a new blog post, Bill Maher says it’s Republican scandal obsession that’s fueling anything and everything in Congress right now, “in the absence of actual governing or an urge to tackle the problems facing the nation.”

Maher, who took on the right last week over stereotypical views of the “real man,” took note of how the GOP is trying to distract from BridgeGate by saying it’s not as bad as any number of Obama administration scandals.

[They’re] saying “Bridgegate” is not nearly as bad as Benghazi. Or the IRS scandal. Or, if you’re really deranged, the birth certificate, the New Black Panthers, Fast and Furious, Solyndra, Pigford, anything Eric Holder ever did and that time Kathleen Sebelius violated the Hatch Act.

And liberals will counter those conservative claims the way they always do: by tilting their heads and saying, “What the hell is Pigford? What’s wrong with these people?”

Maher says that knee-jerk Republican scandal outrage is getting so bad, “Even if Democrats pushed through a measure honoring the flush toilet for its 150 years of service to public health, Republicans would say they’re just trying to distract Americans from the botched rollout of Obamacare. Also Benghazi.”

Maher has long questioned why the right is outraged at practically everything having to do with Obama and Republicans piling on Benghazi in a “right-wing fantasy machine.”
