Must-See Late Night Clip: Colbert Predicts Jeb Bush’s State of the Union Address
Late Show host Stephen Colbert devoted his desk segment Wednesday night to taking on two of the newest books to emerge out of the Presidential campaign trail: Donald Trump’s Crippled America and Jeb Bush’s Reply All. Regarding Bush’s latest foray into authorship, Colbert said, “It’s a great way to show you’re done making mistakes by naming a book after something people do by accident.”
“But no matter how tough it gets,” continued Colbert, “don’t count it out, because as [Jeb] explained he is a fighter.” The clip tosses to Jeb’s now-infamous “nail eating” remark, before a series of grabs of Bush’s recent admissions on his previous poor performance. “Really inspires confidence in your candidate,” Colbert joked.
Even though Colbert has hosted the establishment GOP candidate on The Late Show before, the recent Bush blunders on the campaign trail were all fair game.
Colbert ventures a guess as to what a potential State of the Union address would look like under a Jeb Presidency, based solely on his flubs:
“The State of our Union is… look, I know it’s gotta get better, I mean c’mon. It has to right? And don’t underestimate America, but I hope you do because I eat nails for breakfast. God bless you, and God bless — you know what, I’ll just see myself out.”
