National Park Service Approves Permit For ‘Unite the Right 2’ White Supremacist Rally Outside White House

A year after an anti-racist protester was killed by a self-avowed neo-Nazi in Charlottesville, Virginia, the National Park Service has approved a permit for another white supremacist rally, a sequel to last year’s deadly event, that will take place in Washington, D.C. on August 12.

White supremacist Jason Kessler, who organized last year’s Charlottesville rally, will host “Unite the Right 2” in Lafayette Park — right across the street from the White House — and claims the demonstration is about “protesting civil rights abuse in Charlottesville” and advocating for “white civil rights.”

The National Park Service’s permit approval read as follows:

“Participants (100-400) will assemble in Lafayette Park-Southwest Quadrant to conduct a First Amendment demonstration, ‘Protesting civil rights abuse in Charlottesville, VA/white civil rights rally.’ Participants will access the demonstration site via 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. Activity in Lafayette Park will include speeches and the display of signs/placecards and flags. Speakers include: Jason Kessler, Patrick Little, Daivd Duke, Simon Roche, Kevin Cormier, Avi Horton, Corey Mahler and Thom Kawcyznki. Permittee has indicated that civil disobedience will not be a part of this demonstration. Permittee has also indicated that Neo Nazis and Antifa, may seek to disrupt, protest or prevent the demonstration. Jason Kessler, Samaria Ruiz, Mark Harriman and Al Stankard are the permit onsite coordinators.”

It is not clear how many white supremacists will show up at the rally this year, as the movement has been hobbled by constant infighting post-Charlottesville, and has lost much of the solidarity shown last August. Due to personal issues with Kessler and concerns over the bad optics of the event, leading white supremacists have advised their followings to completely avoid it.

However, given that Kessler told the National Park Service that there will be “100-400” participants, it seems that he is under the impression that white supremacists will once again make a strong showing, as they did last year when hundreds of racists from countless factions showed up in Charlottesville.
