Rick Santorum Wins Alabama, Mississippi Primaries

Today’s Southern primaries are delegate rich and possibly make-or-break for some Republican candidates, notable Georgian Newt Gingrich, who had only South Carolina and Georgia to his name coming into today’s race. For now, we at least know that the numbers in Alabama appear to show Rick Santorum has taken that state away from Gingrich, and NBC is projecting him the winner.

NBC was the first to project the victory, with Chuck Todd tweeting it at 9:52 PM:

They also later added the voter numbers as they came in. As of now, Politico has Santorum in the lead with 34.5%:

ABC projected the victory about 15 minutes later, Fox called it at 10:15 PM, while CNN chimed in at 10:16 PM, with Santorum still at a steady 35% of the vote.

Update: At 10:45 PM, Fox News projected Santorum the winner of Mississippi, news that came to the candidate as he delivered his speech in Louisiana.
