NBC Conducting Internal Investigation Into Brian Williams

NBC reportedly has no plans to discipline Brian Williams over his false story about being shot at in a helicopter over Iraq, but another report today says they are conducting an internal investigation into the matter.

The New York Daily News reports that NBC News is conducting an internal investigation into Williams. For years, Williams claimed he was in a helicopter that got shot at in Iraq, but it turns out he wasn’t shot at at all, it appears.

The investigation is being led by Richard Esposito, the head of NBC’s investigative unit. There has reportedly been lots of anger at NBC directed at Williams, but the few names at NBC that have spoken out publicly have defended him.

Update- 4:06 pm EST: NBC News president Deborah Turness confirmed in an internal memo that there is an investigation underway.
