Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich took the stage on Hannity Monday evening to raise alarm bells over a GOP led Congress which has become increasingly sclerotic. Despite owning both chambers and the presidency, Republicans have so far failed to execute the lion’s share of their legislative agenda.
With the repeal of Obamacare now just about dead, Gingrich warned that, unless swift actions was taken, there was a “real danger of Speaker Pelosi” in 2019.
“Do we represent prosperity, economic growth, higher take home pay, more jobs or not?” asked Gingrich. “I personally believe they ought to do as much as they can on health care right now, but they shouldn’t spend the whole rest of this year on one issue. They have also got to pass, by Thanksgiving, and sign into law by Thanksgiving, a very large tax cut retroactively designed back to January 1 to make sure we have enough economic growth in 2018.”
Then he issued his triggering prediction.
“If we don’t have economic growth next year, I think we’re in real danger of having Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2019.”
With health care now in the rear view mirror, Mitch McConnell is trying one last desperate gambit, hoping to pass a repeal only law with a two year grace period, during which time a replacement for Obamacare could be crafted.
… Good luck with that.
