NY Times Addresses Outrage over Publishing Darren Wilson’s Street

The New York Times got some heat yesterday for including Darren Wilson‘s unredacted marriage license, complete with his street address (though the photo was taken down and the report was updated). Conservative news outlets really ripped the Times, and today the paper has publicly commented.

The Washington Examiner‘s Becket Adams reached out to the Times and got comments from head of communications Eileen Murphy. She said the story in its current iteration “mentions only the name of the street where the couple have a house and that street has been widely reported on.” (Though conservatives are still upset about that being reported on in and of itself.)

As for the marriage license, Murphy explained, “We originally posted a copy of the marriage license. When it was pointed out that the license contained a street address, we thought the right thing to do was to remove it, so we did.”
