Obama’s Commerce Sec. John Bryson Resigns Following Seizure-Induced Hit-And-Run Accidents
The U.S. Secretary of Commerce, John Bryson, resigned his post on Thursday. Bryson was the subject of a controversy when he was behind the wheel after two hit-and-run accidents in California. Bryson claims that he is prone to seizures and suffered an episode that lead to those collisions.
In his letter of resignation, Bryson said that his medical condition is a distraction and he better serves the nation by stepping down.
Bryson took a medical leave of absence at President Barack Obama’s urging after his accidents came to light.
He was replaced by Deputy Secretary Rebecca Blank who served as the acting Secretary of Commerce after Bryson took his leave. She will remain in the post until the Senate receives the nomination of and confirms a permanent replacement.
