POLITICO’s Josh Gerstein to Hugh Hewitt: ‘Signs the Ship Is Cracking’ on Obamacare
POLITICO reporter Josh Gerstein joined conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Wednesday to break down the news about the White House considering a delay to the Obamacare mandate for a few weeks. Hewitt was incensed about the idea of “rule by decree” from the White House, while Gerstein agreed that “there are signs the ship is cracking” on the iceberg that is the health care law.
Gerstein suggested that the White House’s rationale for this was purely “political,” and now sets precedence for them continuing to waive portions of the law “on a sort of indefinite basis.”
Gerstein also addressed the media coverage of the rollout, telling Hewitt all the stories about some tidbit or another derailing Obama’s second-term goals were “nonsense” because “I never felt that there was a clear policy agenda for the second term.” He said the media’s been getting far more aggressive on Obama than it used to, though he disagreed with Hewitt that the president’s been lying about the health care law.
He concluded, “There are signs the ship is cracking up here on what may be a pretty significant iceberg.”
