Released Taliban Commander Plans to ‘Fight American Forces’ Again

In addition to all the details coming out about Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, one of the chief complaints about the deal that freed him is that the United States freed five Taliban commanders from Guantanamo Bay and they could potentially rejoin the fight against the United States. Well, two individuals close to Noorullah Noori, one of the released commanders, told NBC News that he plans to fight Americans in Afghanistan once he gets back there.

Another Taliban commander said, “After arriving in Qatar, Noorullah Noori kept insisting he would go to Afghanistan and fight American forces there.” A relative of Noori’s also relayed that Noori was pushing to go back to Afghanistan because, as part of the deal struck with the United States, no country can arrest any of the five released commanders for a year “as long as they lived peacefully.”

The Taliban welcomed the deal as a victory for their side, and one Taliban chief told TIME that the prisoner swap would make it more likely that they would kidnap Americans in the future.
