Second House Republican Now Backs Independent Commission on Russia After ‘Bizarre’ Trump Letter

Two House Republicans have now pledged their support to legislation which would establish an independent commission on Russia.
According to Buzzfeed, Justin Amash (R-MI) is signed on to support a bill that was introduced by Democratic Congressmen Elijah Cummings and Eric Swalwell.
Amash joins Walter Jones as the second Republican Congressman to sign on to the legislation.
Happy to join my friend @RepWalterJones as another Republican cosponsor of @RepSwalwell‘s bill. This investigation must be nonpartisan. https://t.co/So3J6hGpMn

The Michigan Congressman gave his first hint that he was leaning towards backing the independent commission on Tuesday shortly after President Donald Trump‘s termination letter to FBI Director James Comey became public. Amash called the second paragraph of the letter — in which Trump said he appreciated Comey telling him on three different occasions that he was not under investigation — as “bizarre.”
My staff and I are reviewing legislation to establish an independent commission on Russia. The second paragraph of this letter is bizarre. https://t.co/wXeDtVIQiP

Eric Swalwell, one of the bill’s sponsors, told Buzzfeed that he appreciated the support from the other side of the aisle. And he indicated that more support for the independent probe may be forthcoming.
“I’m going to keep talking to my colleagues,” Swalwell said. “There’s been ongoing conversations.”
