SNL Female Staff Release Letter Supporting Al Franken Amid Harassment Scandal

As Al Franken continues to deal with the fallout of his sexual misconduct scandal, his old friends at Saturday Night Live are coming to his defense.
The show’s female staff released a letter today, saying that even though Franken’s behavior towards KABC’s Leeann Tweeden was “stupid and foolish,” they feel compelled to defend his public service record and his conduct from when he used to work with them.

Last week, the KABC anchor accused Franken of kissing her against her will and making various snide comments during a 2006 USO tour they worked on together. Tweeden also released a photo showing Franken grabbing her chest through her protective vest while she was sleeping.
Franken responded to this by offering a public apology and promising that he will cooperate with any congressional ethics investigations into his history. Since then, a second woman has alleged that the senator inappropriately touched her during a photo-op.
This past weekend, SNL went after Franken during a Weekend Update segment on sexual harassment. The accusations against the Minnesota Democrat have prompted a new wave of discussion about misconduct as sexual harassment scandals continue to rock the country.
