Sometimes it’s just too easy for television’s punditocracy. In yesterday’s speech regarding the failed terrorist attack of Christmas Day, Barack Obama admitted that there was a failure “to connect the dots,” a clean, honest and trite acknowledgment that mistakes had been made. Also, a perfect soundbite for TV pundits eager to simplify a complex narrative into a few, easy-to-understand words, almost like a puzzle designed to quiet children on a restaurant placemat. Mike Gallagher, George Will, Chris Wallace, and Greta Van Susteren all used the hackneyed phrase stated by President Obama.
