Stephen Colbert on Late Show Move: ‘I Love a Challenge’
Stephen Colbert won big at the Emmys last night, and it’s probably going to be the last time he does so with The Colbert Report. After all, by this time next year (we assume, CBS hasn’t given any firm dates yet) he’ll be in the late night chair currently occupied by David Letterman. And on the Emmys red carpet, Colbert showed he’s both excited and nervous to be taking over that coveted position.
He told TVLine’s Michael Ausiello that he hasn’t spent much time worrying about that transition because doing his current show takes up so much mental energy by itself. Colbert half-joked, “24 hours before the show ends I’ll probably be a wreck.”
He admitted he’s nervous about moving to such a prestigious show, especially one hosted for decades by one of his comedy idols. Colbert said, “I just hope I do a good job because I love Dave so much and I want to do something that’s as anywhere close to what I love about his.”
