‘This Is Not About Firing Dee Snider’: Tapper Snarks on Difficult Task of Hiring New FBI Director
One thing that we’ve grown accustomed to over the past few months is CNN anchor Jake Tapper tendency to offer up some well-placed snark during broadcasts. Whether it is mocking Michael Flynn over leading “Lock her up!” chants or Hillary Clinton for not taking responsibility for her election loss, nary a day will go by without at least one little wisecrack from Tapper. (Something he’s taken criticism for it recently from, of all places, The Daily Show.)
During a segment this afternoon, Tapper tossed out another one-liner while discussing the President Donald Trump’s current search for a new FBI director. Of course, the president needs to find a new FBI head after firing James Comey earlier this month.
Pointing out that one-time frontrunner for the job — former senator Joe Lieberman — is apparently out of the running now due to his lack of law enforcement background, the CNN anchor then commented on how hard the task really is.
“This is a decision that is not about — this is not about firing Dee Snider,” Tapper said, obviously referencing Trump’s previous occupation as host of The Celebrity Apprentice.
He further explained that the last time this job was filled, President Barack Obama took two years to find former FBI Director Robert Mueller’s replacement.
“So the idea that this was going to be done quickly,” he added, “that was a deadline of its own creation.”
