This Republican Fundraiser Sounds Like The Bachelor for GOP 2016

Tonight, Mitt Romney is hosting a GOP megadonor fundraiser, and its guests of honor happen to be potential 2016 Republican candidates. Imagine a debutante ball crossed with The Bachelor, except instead of marriage, the prize is “Mitt Romney’s massive fundraising money orchard made of rich people”, and you get the idea.

Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Rand Paul (R-KY), and Govs. Chris Christie (R-NJ) and John Kasich (R-OH) are all scheduled to attend, as well as Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), a popular fantasy pick for vice president. And if last year’s fundraiser is any indication, the guests will all be very, very rich: according to the invite, the cost of a ticket/contribution is the maximum federal donation, $32,400 per person.

Romney is listed as a cohost, along with RNC chairman Reince Priebus and New York Jets owner Woody Johnson, who’s hosting the party in an Upper West Side penthouse.

This is the second time in a row that Rubio, Christie, and Paul have all been invited to the fundraiser, generally dubbed an “early audition” for potential presidential candidates meeting their potential financial backers. Considering that they’re all hitting up the same people for money and the official campaign season is less than a year away, we imagine that this fundraiser is going to be mad awks — especially if Romney decides to screw them over and run in 2016.
