This Video Showing SNL’s Visual Effects Department in Action is Mesmerizing to Watch

By the time Saturday Night Live gets to you, it’s really, really polished. Between Monday’s pitch meeting and 11:30 pm on Saturday night, there’s a lot that gets done, but while most of us are focused on on the content of the sketches and the quality of the acting, there’s also a ton that goes into creating the visual effects each week. And, the team only has 12 hours to get it all done.

The latest installment the web series Creating Saturday Night Live focuses on what goes on during those 12 hours. In it, we see how it is that Kristen Wiig was able to crawl out of a television set a la The Ring, how Kate McKinnon‘s creepy stalker version of Kellyanne Conway‘s legs looked so, so broken when she flew out a window, and how Dave Chappelle became headless. The work the team does, especially given the time constraints, is pretty unbelievable, and the video is completely mesmerizing.
