Trump Called Jeff Sessions ‘Mentally Retarded,’ According to Bob Woodward: ‘He’s This Dumb Southerner’

An excerpt of Bob Woodward‘s upcoming book on the White House claims President Donald Trump has become so enraged with Jeff Sessions that the president is calling the attorney general mentally incompetent.
Woodward’s book — Fear: Trump in the White House — will hit the shelves next week. But the Washington Post picked up on several excerpts in which Woodward describes Trump’s escalating anger with the Russia investigation. The president reportedly described the probe as a “goddamn hoax” during a simulated interview with Robert Mueller.
Woodward describes a “nervous breakdown” of the executive branch, and at one point, he recounts an episode where Trump went on a full throttle tear against Sessions:
A near-constant subject of withering presidential attacks was Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Trump told [Rob] Porter that Sessions was a “traitor” for recusing himself from overseeing the Russia investigation, Woodward writes. Mocking Sessions’s accent, Trump added, “This guy is mentally retarded. He’s this dumb Southerner. … He couldn’t even be a one-person country lawyer down in Alabama.”
Trump’s frustration with Sessions’ recusal from the Russia investigations have been well-established for sometime, but the president has increased the ferocity of his AG slams in recent days. Trump recently demanded that Sessions use the DOJ to investigate his political enemies, and yesterday, he bashed Sessions for endangering the congressional seats of Chris Collins (R-NY) and Duncan Hunter (R-CA) by bringing criminal indictments against them.
