Twitter Goes Nuts Over Pentagon’s Secret UFO Program: ‘I Want to Believe’

Saturday brought reports from both Politico and the New York Times on a mysterious and secret Pentagon program that investigated UFOs. The program, started in 2007, was reportedly the brainchild of former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who secured funding for it with the bipartisan support of other senators.
Thr Department of Defense acknowledged the existence of the program, noting it was about investigating unidentified flying objects while stating that it had been shut down in 2012. However, others explained that while the funding had ceased, the program still exists, and that officials associated with it have continued to “investigate episodes brought to them by service members.”
Reid, for his part, expressed pride in the program, stating that he’s “not embarrassed or ashamed or sorry I got this thing going” and he thinks “it’s one of the good things I did in my congressional service.”
As you’d imagine with a story of this nature, folks on Twitter had quite a reaction.
I'd read a tick-tock of why NYT and Politico just posted stories of the Pentagon UFO program at virtually the same time

Me: Wow, 2017 was rough. Catastrophic hurricanes & fires, an oppressive Trump regime, North Korean nuclear threat, terrorism, and predatory men everywhere.
NY Times: Oh, we haven’t even told you about the UFOs yet.

So if your mind was blown by the election of Trump, the ensuing scandal surrounding DNC and Russian intervention, how about trying UFOs and top secret Pentagon programs on for size? https://t.co/QLOA46VOMJ

2017 — when the Pentagon acknowledging a secret UFO program seems like one of the *least* weird stories of the year https://t.co/rkTSfXozQ2
