Twitter Slams NYT For Not Mentioning That Sen. Menendez, Who is Facing Felony Charges, Is a Democrat

On Monday, The New York Times took some heat for a factual omission in an article about Democratic Senator Robert Menendez, whose corruption trial begins this week.
The article, which has since been updated, goes into detail about the New Jersey senator, who is being accused of accepting thousands of dollars in bribes in the form of campaign contributions and lavish vacations, but never mentioned his party affiliation.
And Twitter noticed quickly.
A DEMOCRAT SENATOR. Why didn’t you include party affiliation!

Democrat isn’t he? Neglected to mention that.

Leaves the impression that party affiliation is only important when Republicans are facing criminal charges! #bias #integrity #journalism pic.twitter.com/fFBihCPqrb

The New York Times wrote a 1,288 word article that never once informs the reader that the Senator facing a bribery trial is a Democrat. https://t.co/qJ742kB4en

The author of the piece, Nick Corasaniti, made the correction, calling it an “oversight.”
Thanks Evan. Not odd, just an oversight on my part after drafts. Adding back now.

Let’s just say people didn’t believe him.
