Warren, Sanders Go After Trump for Breaking Promise to ‘Drain the Swamp’

The last leg of Donald Trump‘s campaign prominently featured his “drain the swamp” message––a message Democrats open to the idea say he’s not following through on.

Both Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have expressed that they are willing to work with Trump on things he said he would do to help the middle class, but both of them are already jumping on him for hiring the kind of people he seemed to show disdain for on the campaign trail.

The actual “drain the swamp” policy proposal mostly concerned a crackdown on lobbyists in government, but Sanders tweeted out this image earlier today:

Elizabeth Warren also sent a letter today to the president-elect that says the following:

“If you truly stand by your commitment to making government work for all Americans –– not just those with armies of lobbyists on payroll –– you must remove the lobbyists and financial bigwigs from your transition team and reinstate a group of advisors who will fight for the interests of all Americans. Maintaining a transition team of Washington insiders sends a clear signal to all who are watching you –– that you are already breaking your campaign promises to ‘drain the swamp’ and that you are selling out the American public.”

Kellyanne Conway defended some of the transition team’s more insider-y choices by saying, “Look, these are people who are talented and have done this before. You can’t just appoint novices, you have to have people who know what they’re doing.”
