WATCH LIVE: Protests Break Out in Front of Capitol as Senate Prepares For Kavanaugh Confirmation
While Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation is all but imminent, protesters are still taking to the streets outside of the highest court in the US and the Capitol Building, which can be viewed in the live stream above.
Kavanaugh, whose nomination was slowed due to sexual misconduct allegations leveled against the judge, is expected to receive the Senate’s seal of proposal this afternoon after both the previously unsure Senators Susan Collins and Joe Manchin threw their votes behind President Donald Trump’s nominee.
Hundreds of activists have now gathered in Capitol Hill to voice their displeasure, which they have also done numerous times this week. The demonstrations have primarily focused on the misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh and the #MeToo movement.
Numerous sexual violence victims have arrived at these protests to tell their stories and attempt to convince senators not to vote for the nominee.
Trump weighed in on these protests by pushing unfounded claims about liberal billionaire George Soros bankrolling the demonstrations, which many took as an antisemitic conspiracy, since white supremacists often claim the Jewish philanthropist is behind elaborate plots to subvert American democracy.
The very rude elevator screamers are paid professionals only looking to make Senators look bad. Don’t fall for it! Also, look at all of the professionally made identical signs. Paid for by Soros and others. These are not signs made in the basement from love! #Troublemakers
