National Geographic photographer Mike Theiss is in Panama City, FL documenting Hurricane Michael’s sweep through the city, and the storm chaser’s Periscope footage shows just how intense the storm actually is.
“We’re back in the eyewall of Hurricane Michael,” Theiss said today on his live stream. “Oh my God this is intense, this is insane. Look at this wind ripping through here.”
In another clip, Theiss showed what the storm looks like in the streets from a higher vantage point.

Hurricane Michael made fall on Mexico Beach, Florida today. It is expected to impact much of the Panhandle area, which is the northern most part of the state that touches the Gulf of Mexico. Winds are expected to be as fast as 155 mph.
A local National Weather Service office even compared the winds to a tornado.
An extreme wind warning is in effect Panama City FL, Lynn Haven FL, Callaway FL until 3:15 PM CDT for winds in excess of 130 mph. Treat these imminent extreme winds as if a tornado was approaching and move immediately to an interior room or shelter. #HurricaneMichael pic.twitter.com/varLTSyGnB
