White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will host a presser today at 3:15 p.m. EST to discuss the administration’s latest moves and plans.
With the Alabama special Senate election quickly approaching, Sanders will certainly be vigorously questioned about the administration and President Donald Trump’s tacit support for alleged child molester Roy Moore. Despite the disturbing accusations that have been leveled against him, Trump spent the weekend attacking Moore’s Democrat opponent Doug Jones and voicing support for the GOP candidate without mentioning him by name.
“The last thing we need in Alabama and the U.S. Senate is a Schumer/Pelosi puppet who is WEAK on Crime, WEAK on the Border, Bad for our Military and our great Vets, Bad for our 2nd Amendment, AND WANTS TO RAISES TAXES TO THE SKY. Jones would be a disaster!” tweeted Trump on Sunday.
Other presidential tweets Sanders may have to address include Trump’s up-tick in attacks toward CNN and affectionate statements for Fox News. This morning, he even announced his desire to see a Hunger Games style contest between the major non-conservative media outlets to see who would receive the “FAKE NEWS TROPHY.”
Aside from the president’s bizarre Twitter outbursts against media outlets that do not air Fox & Friends, the administration has maintained focus on passing a tax reform bill — hoping the version passed in the House can survive the Senate. However, Republicans are on a strict schedule to pass the major legislation this year, as there are only 11 days left of government funding and 12 viable days left to pass legislation.
Sanders may also have to address the Justice Department’s blockage of a merger between AT&T and Time Warner — as officials cited the deal would break antitrust laws. Given Trump’s hatred for CNN — a subsidiary of Time Warner — many critics have cited a conflict of interest between the DOJ’s suit and the president’s rhetoric.
