What Finally Got Paul Ryan to Stop Watching House of Cards?
The hit D.C. show House of Cards has enthralled the country, even if some members of Congress aren’t so keen on it. Paul Ryan, for one, told Parade Magazine in an interview published today that he tried watching the show, but one simple action of Frank Underwood‘s started making him feel too queasy to continue on.
Some politicians have really gotten into the show. President Obama joked about the ruthless efficiency of the fictional Congress, Chris Wallace asked the current House Majority Leader if he’s ever killed anyone like Underwood has, and several members of Congress did Frank Underwood impressions for a fun, light-hearted video.
But Ryan can’t really get into it. Why?
I watched the first couple of episodes until he cheated on his wife with that reporter. It turned my stomach so much that I just couldn’t watch it anymore. His behavior was so reprehensible, and it hit too close to home because he was a House member, that it just bothered me too much. And what I thought is, it makes us all look like we’re like that.
Well, obviously not. If everyone was that ruthless, more would get done in Washington.
