Ann Coulter Rips Fox News For Playing to the MAGA Base For Ratings: ‘No Idea What a Conservative Position Is’
Ann Coulter spoke to New York Times media reporter Jeremy Peters recently for an interview on how the Republican Party has changed and jabbed Fox News for “no longer leading conservatives.”
Coulter shared a clip Monday from the interview in which the two discussed how Fox changed after Roger Ailes was forced out of the company in 2016 over sexual harassment allegations.
“Now, every media, to a certain degree, tells their audience, their readers, their viewers, what they think will resonate,” Peters said, adding:
I mean, let’s not be naive here. There’s a lot of, you know, the way that stories get selected and framed at many media properties, not just conservative ones, has a lot to do with how they think the audience will respond favorably or not. But by the time you get to Fox News in 2020, what you had was a network that was so afraid of its viewers and yet so profitable from telling those viewers what it wanted that when given the opportunity to tell them the truth. Declined to do so because they didn’t want to upset that profitability and popularity.
“Yes. Yes,” Coulter agreed, “I think your analysis of what they were thinking is completely true. I don’t think it had to be that way. Like you say, under Roger Ailes, much more. They were more leading conservatives, I mean, viewers of any network or consumers of any news, they have busy lives. They have jobs. And so, you know, they tune in to their media to find out what they should be thinking and what the arguments are.”
“And I think after Roger Ailes was tossed that they just don’t have very smart people at the top and they have no idea what a conservative position is,” Coulter fumed, adding:
They have to. Oh, well, some of the primetime hosts rip off my Twitter feed to find out what the conservative position is. But they don’t know. You could throw a glass of cold water on pretty much anyone at Fox News in the middle of the night and ask them to respond to, you know, what about illegal immigration?
Coulter in recent years turned on former President Donald Trump and has become a fierce critic of his 2024 run, despite having penned a book in 2016 titled, “In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome!” Coulter’s ire at Trump is largely focused on what she sees as his failure to enact any significant immigration reforms and other unfulfilled promises from his time in office.
