AOC Tears Into Kevin McCarthy For Blaming Democrats For Demise: ‘Expected Dem Votes For Free’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) tore into Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday after McCarthy blamed House Democrats for his ousting as speaker of the House.
During his post-ousting speech on Tuesday, McCarthy said, “I think today was a political decision by the Democrats, and I think the things they have done in the past hurt the institution. When they just started removing people from committee, when they just started doing the other things, and my fear is the institution fell today.”
In a series of Twitter posts, Ocasio-Cortez responded, “1. Does anyone believe for one minute that McCarthy would help elect a Dem speaker ‘for the institution’? 2. McCarthy’s hubris is a theme. He loudly stated he wouldn’t negotiate w/Dems, called virtually none, trashed those who helped w/CR, and then expected Dem votes for free?”
The congresswoman continued:
If McCarthy cared so much for the institution, he wouldn’t have opened a baseless impeachment w/o a House vote (as he promised &broke)
If he cared for the institution, he wouldn’t have voted to overturn election results.
He would’ve honored his debt limit deal w/ the President.
One would think after years of striving, McCarthy would have studied lessons left by predecessors Boehner and Ryan, who also fell at their destructive wing.
It was McCarthy’s choice to empower them further. He protected them & punished those who bucked Trump. He’s not a victim.
McCarthy was ousted as speaker of the House after eight Republicans, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), voted with Democrats to remove him from the position.
Fox News host Sean Hannity claimed on his show Tuesday that a group of Republicans were attempting to draft former President Donald Trump to the speakership and that Trump was allegedly “open” to the idea.
