Bill Maher Smacks Conservatives Cheering His Biden Border Criticism: ‘Purposefully Leave Out Half The Story’

Bill Maher on Sunday smacked conservatives who have been cheering his comments about President Joe Biden and the border for only telling “half the story” — and related their reaction to another viral moment that drew praise from the right a week earlier.

On Friday’s edition of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher the host, speaking with Republican Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire and Fox News host and Democratic strategist Jessica Tarlov about immigration and the election, Maher expressed his contempt for the “acting” on border issues in D.C., including by Biden.

“I was going to say part two of the acting is, it’s Joe Biden was saying, you know what? If you just give me a new law. A new law? Why does — the president can fix this. He already has the existing laws,” said Maher. “This is all so silly. ‘I need a piece of paper from Congress to deal with the border!’ No, you already have that.”

That clip went viral on social media but in isolation, said Maher in a post to X on Sunday.

Maher said “part two” because he had a minute earlier in the show blasted the “acting” by Republicans on the subject.

“Immigration is real but the reaction to it is not real. It’s all a bunch of acting,” he said. “They should be getting an award this award season here because, you know, really. They, the Republicans act like they want to solve this, but the Democrats called their bluff. I mean, there was a, there is a bill right now that a lot of them, Mitch McConnell, like some pretty conservative senators saying this is as good a deal as you’re going to get. They don’t want it because they don’t want this issue to be solved and because they need it as an issue.”

Maher shared the clip of that comment in his post to X rebuking conservatives.

Maher referenced his complaints about “narrative-over-truth” media, which was also the subject of a viral moment a week ago.

Speaking with actor and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, Maher criticized the lack of credibility in the press, saying “They print the narrative. They don’t print truth.

His tweet on Sunday essentially said that the same conservative media who praised that criticism are doing the same thing with his border comments.
