‘Disaster’: Lindsey Graham Says ‘Unprepared’ Trump Should Fire His Debate Team

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) was not pleased with the performance turned in by former President Donald Trump against Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday night.

For nearly two hours in Philadelphia, Trump and Harris traded barbs while explaining their visions for the country. Harris repeatedly baited the former president “successfully,” according to Brit Hume of Fox News. In one memorable exchange, Harris told Trump he “got fired by 81 million people” and is “having a difficult time processing that.”

At one point, Trump repeated a baseless rumor propagated by right-wing social media accounts claiming Haitian migrants in Ohio are abducting pets and eating them.

“In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs,” he claimed. “The people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there.”

After the debate, Tim Miller of The Bulwark caught up with Graham, who offered his assessment.

“Just spoke with Lindsey Graham in the spin room,” Miller reported. “[H]e said the debate team should be fired and Trump was unprepared. ‘[D]isaster'”

Later on, Miller went on MSNBC and gave a more detailed account.

“I saw my old friend Lindsey Graham,” the former Republican operative said. “We used to be pals in 2016 when he was a Jeb [Bush]-endorser. And we had a heated exchange, I will have to say, where he said I should be ashamed of myself. And the feeling is kind of. mutual. After our argument about the state of affairs and politics when we calmed down a little bit, he looked at me and he was just like, ‘You are right about one thing. That was a disaster. He was unprepared and we should fire the debate team.'”

Graham has been an ardent defender of Trump after vehemently opposing his candidacy in 2016. Still, the senator has been occasionally blunt when he believes the former president is off track. In April, Graham publicly split with Trump on a national abortion ban. Trump responded by taking credit for Graham’s reelection.

“I blame myself for Lindsey Graham, because the only reason he won in the Great State of South Carolina is because I Endorsed him!” said Trump
