Fox’s Peter Doocy Grills Karine Jean-Pierre on Biden’s Poor Swing State Numbers: ‘Why Is It Nothing You’re Doing… Is Working?’

Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy pressed White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre multiple times on Tuesday to explain President Joe Biden’s poor polling in swing states and why “nothing” seems to be working with voters.

“Why do you think Americans are so down on President Biden right now?” Doocy asked Jean-Pierre during a Tuesday press conference.

Asked to explain, Doocy referenced a poll released on Monday from The New York Times, Siena College, and The Philadelphia Inquirer that found Biden trailing Donald Trump in support in five of six swing states that are considered critical this election. Trump held a double digit lead in multiple states.

Jean-Pierre acknowledged the effects of inflation and blamed the Covid pandemic, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin for impacting oil prices greatly with his ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

“We are sensitive enough and open-minded enough to understand that not just this country, but globally people have had to deal with a pandemic and coming out of that pandemic. We understand that even think about gas prices and because of Putin’s war what has occurred, that led to gas prices increasing,” she said.

Jean-Pierre defended Biden saying he had multiple “crises” to deal with when in office.

The press secretary acknowledged “prices are too high for Americans” and said it’s “going to take a little bit of time.”

“I get that you understand people are hurting right now. Why is it that nothing you’re doing to address their concerns is working?” Doocy asked.

Jean-Pierre said the administration understands “what the American people are feeling” and touted new tariffs by the White House on imports from China as part of the “work” being done to fix the economy.

“What I’m saying is we’re going to continue to do the work. I can’t speak to the polls. Those are for folks who are experts who can do a deep dive and look into that and speak to them,” she said. “What I can speak to is we understand what the American people are feeling. We understand what they’re going through. That’s why we’re going to continue to do the work.”
