Hugh Hewitt Ends Interview With Trump Begging Him Not to Endorse Eric Greitens: ‘We’ll Lose That Seat’

Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt pleaded with former President Donald Trump not to endorse former Gov. Eric Greitens (R-MO) in the Republican primary for the open U.S. Senate seat in Missouri.

Greitens, who is running to fill the seat being vacated by retiring Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), resigned from the governorship in 2018 amid allegations of sexual misconduct and campaign finance allegations.

Hewitt asked Trump on his eponymous show Wednesday about what upcoming endorsements the former president has planned.

After saying he will endorse in Ohio’s very contentious Senate race, Trump added:

Yeah, no, I’ll endorse at some point. It’s a very interesting race, and the Missouri race also, very interesting race. And Pennsylvania’s going to be very interesting. A couple of people are getting in there now that are excellent.

“So we have some big endorsements coming,” Trump teased.

Trump’s highly coveted endorsements can help launch a candidate’s campaign and energize the base but have also made headlines for the wrong reasons recently as his pick in Pennsylvania, Sean Parnell, was accused of domestic assault and eventually suspended his campaign.

“Please don’t, please don’t endorse Eric Greitens,” Hewitt responded. “That’s a nightmare, Mr. President. We’ll lose that seat. But that’s Hugh Hewitt’s opinion, not yours.”

Trump responded, “Well, that’s an interesting opinion, that’s true. He’s right now leading by quite a bit.”

Last week Greitens secured the backing of Home Depot Founder Bernie Marcus, a close Trump ally, who donated $1 million into his Senate bid.

“I know, but he will lose the seat. We will lose the seat,” Hewitt continued.

“I understand that. Okay, some people feel that,” Trump concluded as the interview wound down.
