Joy Reid Calls Byron Donalds ‘The One Black Guy That Republicans Love to Roll Out as Fake Proof That Black People’ Support Trump

MSNBC’s Joy Reid mocked former Donald Trump for boasting about the alleged groundswell of support he enjoys from residents of the Bronx. She also took a shot at Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), who spoke at a rally for Trump in the New York borough on Thursday.

Trump and conservative media outlets grossly overstated the size of the crowd in the heavily Democratic area that went for Joe Biden in 2020, 83.5% to 16%.

On Friday’s edition of The ReidOut, Reid dismissed the idea Trump has any meaningful support in the Bronx.

“If Trump has so many supporters in New York, why aren’t they showing up in droves to support him at his trial where the courthouse is literally just a subway ride away?” Reid asked, referring to Trump’s criminal trial in Lower Manhattan where he is accused of falsifying business records.

The host noted that on Tuesday, just one Trump supporter showed up outside the former president’s trial.

“Usually, there are none,” she said. “Trust me. I’ve been there. And to top off this tomfoolery, Trump floated Florida congressman, Byron Donalds, as a potential vice presidential pick.”

Reid noted that Donalds was one of several Republicans who insinuated that the FBI sought to use “lethal force” against Trump during the bureau’s execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago in 2022. Trump was not home at the time.

“Donalds, who backed Trump’s lie that Biden authorized the feds to take him out – that guy,” she said. “The one Black guy that Republicans love to roll out as fake proof that Black people – the Blacks – are just MAGA. They’re MAGA. It’s a joke, and just as credible as when they pretended they were gonna make that guy speaker of the House, ’cause they weren’t gonna do that either.”

During Thursday’s rally in the Bronx, Trump told the crowd that business titans often ask him why he gets out of bed in the morning. He also blamed the Oct 7. terrorist attacks in Israel on what he falsely claimed was the “rigged” 2020 election in the U.S.
