Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-LA) roasted Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT-I) for claiming that the Democratic party “abandoned working-class families” following Donald Trump’s historic win.

Following Kamala Harris’ resounding defeat on Tuesday, Sanders issued a statement assailing Democrats because they are not focusing on issues that appeal to working-class voters.

“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party, which has abandoned working-class people, would find that the working-class has abandoned them,” said Sanders, who recently won reelection in Vermont.

“While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change,” he added.

During an interview earlier this week with The New York Times, Pelosi said she “completely disagreed” with the independent lawmaker and does “not respect” his views on the matter.

“Kamala Harris ran ahead of Bernie Sanders in Vermont,” she said while claiming the party has advocated for working-class policy during Joe Biden’s administration.

“Go ask Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders has not won,” Pelosi replied when asked why so many working-class voters went to Trump. “Let me, with all due respect, and I have a great deal of respect for him, for what he stands for, but I don’t respect him saying that the Democratic Party has abandoned the working-class families. That’s where we are.

She concluded, “For example, under President Biden, you see the rescue package, money in the pockets of people, shots in the arm, children in school safely, working people back to work…. What did, what’s his name? What did Trump do when he was president? One bill that gave a tax cut to the richest people in America.”
