Rep. Tim Ryan Announces Run For Ohio Senate With Video Heavy on Workers and Football

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) launched a bid for Senate on Monday.
The former presidential candidate is the first Democrat in the race to replace Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), who is not running for reelection in 2022.
In a campaign video posted to Twitter, Ryan announced his bid. The video, with a cameo from Ryan’s son Brady put a heavy emphasis on workers, jobs, community, and football (Ryan was a high school quarterback.)

“The success of America isn’t housed in the halls of Congress,” Ryan said in the video. “It lies in the calloused hands and the unrelenting grit of America’s workers. Those who dug the deepest sent our nation soaring.”
While Ryan is the first Democrat to enter the race in Ohio — a state former President Donald Trump won in 2020 by eight points — the Republican field is crowded.
Former Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel, former Ohio Republican Party leader Jane Timken, Cleveland car dealer Bernie Moreno, and businessman Mike Gibbons are all competing for the nomination (and Trump’s support).
